Christmas comes early for thousands of future Queensland university students

AUSTRALIA – CU – The agonizing wait for university offers is over for more than 16,000 Year 12 students who have received places for Queensland university courses next year. 

The Queensland Tertiary Admission Centre (QTAC) released 11,485 offers for Queensland Year 12 students today, in addition to 4,630 early offers made to students before they had finished school. The number of offers has increased by 10 per cent from last year.

QTAC chief executive John Griffiths said the offers gave students certainty as they headed into the holiday season.

Dr Griffiths said “These students have shown great resilience over the past two years, which provides a great foundation for their future studies, QTAC remains committed to all students, whether they received an ATAR or not, being able to access the great education opportunities provided in Queensland.”

The most offers were released by The University of Queensland (UQ) for its Bachelor of Engineering with Honours (219 places), followed by 200 offers for UQ’s Bachelor of Arts and 200 places for Griffith University’s Bachelor of Business.

The next most offered courses were Queensland University of Technology’s Bachelor of Engineering with Honours (190 places) and Griffith University’s Bachelor of Education (165 offers).

Dr Griffiths urged students who did not receive an offer not to panic. “Another big offer round takes place on Thursday, January 13, QTAC applicants have until Wednesday, January 5 to change their preferences for this round.”

The most popular fields of study offered today were society and culture, which includes law, economics, psychology, sport and recreation, followed by health, management and commerce, the natural and physical sciences, and engineering.
