Commonwealth Youth Awards 2026: London Ceremony to Honour Young Leaders Driving Sustainable Development Across 56 Nations

The Commonwealth Secretariat plans to announce the winners of the ’26 Commonwealth Youth Awards for Excellence in Development Work in London on Thursday, 25 June ’26.

The event’s organized by the Commonwealth Secretariat. Its in partnership with the Commonwealth Association besides the Commonwealth Journalists Association. The awards recognize young people aged 15-29 years. The awards celebrate the achievements of young people in their efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Those shortlisted include social entrepreneurs, journalists, environmental champions, writers, innovators besides human rights activists spanning the Commonwealth.

Breaking new ground, this year, one of the 6 finalists shortlisted for the inaugural Patsy Robertson Award for Outstanding Communication Skills. It’s a new category in the ’26 Commonwealth Youth Awards. It may receive a cash prize sponsored by the Commonwealth Association. Each finalist in this category may also receive a complementary membership in the Commonwealth Journalists Association. It grants them access to a global journalism network besides a range of professional development opportunities.

Commonwealth Youth Awards 2026: London Ceremony to Honour Young Leaders Driving Sustainable Development Across 56 Nations

The overall winners of the Commonwealth Youth Award may attend the awards ceremony at Marlborough House. It’s the Commonwealth Headquarters in London.

Each finalist may receive a USD 1,320 (£1,000) grant and a trophy besides a certificate.

5 finalists may emerge representing each Commonwealth region. The top finalist from each region may be recognized as the regional winner, who’ll receive USD 3,960 (£3,000) and a trophy besides a certificate. 1 of the 5 regional winners may be named the Commonwealth Young Person of the Year ’26 as well as be awarded USD 6,600 (£5,000). For over 5 decades, the Commonwealth Youth Programme (CYP) has focused on empowering, besides enriching, the lives of over 135 billion young Commonwealth citizens.

New Generation Steel Orchestra

The New Generation Steel Orchestra is a group of 30+ young musicians aged 7-21 years old. They love to play the steel pan. It was established 7 years back in ’19. It was a community-based youth group, registered as a charity, located in West London.

Was seconded by Sri Lankan blue chip conglomerate - John Keells Holdings (JKH) to its fully owned subsidiary - Mackinnon Mackenzie Shipping (MMS) in 1995 as a Junior Executive. MMS, in turn, allocated Roshan to its then principal, P&O Containers regional office for container management in the South Asia region. P&O Containers employed British representatives whom Roshan then understudied. During the ‘90s, Roshan relocated to Dubai, UAE, where Roshan specialised in logistics. More recently, Roshan acquired a Merit award in a postgraduate diploma in Business Administration from the University of Northampton, UK.
