Calls for a robust plan to protect the most vulnerable

(CU)_The G20 Health and Development Partnership hosted the annual Health20 Summit, earlier this week, providing an opportunity for G20 policymakers, international organisations, civil society and the global health community to join discussions and make solid recommendations to the health ministers of the G20 ahead of the Group of Twenty (G20) Leaders’ Summit 2021, which will convene next month in Rome. 

According to the High-Level Independent Panel on Financing the Global Commons for Pandemic Preparedness and Response, established by the G20 in January this year, the twenty most developed economies around the world have already spent US$12 trillion on mitigating COVID-19 and is projected to spend another US$ 10 trillion by 2025 in response to the global health crisis. Accordingly, the H20 summit provided an opportunity to consider what has been achieved by the global community in managing the Coronavirus pandemic and to analyse existing G20 initiatives in order to determine how they can be leveraged and turned into concrete actions.
