India _ Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah has taken an important decision to computerise and empower the registrars of all 28 states and 8 Union Territories, and 1,851 Agriculture and Rural Development Banks (ARDBs) operating in 13 states, according to an official statement.

This is in line with the significant steps taken by the government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the guidance of the Home Minister in order to strengthen all the cooperative societies in the country, the Ministry release added.

In keeping with the computerization scheme of all Primary Agriculture Credit Societies (PACS) in the country, a centrally sponsored scheme has been approved for the computerization of ARDB units through national unified software and the computerization of offices of the Registrar of Cooperatives of all States and Union Territories similar to the Central Registrar.

A Central Project Monitoring Unit (PMU) will be established for this scheme, which will work towards its successful implementation. The total estimated expenditure for this scheme will be Rs 225.09 crore.
