Cricket will be included in…

Sport (Commonwealth) _ Cricket will be part of the Olympic schedule for the 2028 Summer Games in Los Angeles along with flag football, baseball, and softball.

According to the International Cricket Council (ICC), they were ecstatic that the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic organizers chose to suggest cricket for inclusion in the Games. Cricket was included to the list of sports to be introduced in LA after a two-year process in which the ICC worked closely with LA28; the list will now be submitted to the IOC for approval.

When England and France battled for the gold medal in Paris in 1900, cricket was only ever played at the Olympics. However, a men’s and women’s tournament at the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles could appeal to the sizable Asian subcontinent commercial market.

The 141st International Olympic Committee session, which begins on October 15 in Mumbai, will decide whether or not to include cricket in the Olympics. The LA28 organizing committee’s recommendation that the sport be included in the Summer Games was welcomed by the International Cricket Council (ICC), which released a statement in response.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) is pleased with the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic organizers’ recommendation to include cricket in the Games. Cricket was featured on the list of sports to be added in LA after a two-year process, during which the ICC collaborated closely with LA28, and it will now be presented to the IOC for approval.

Lacrosse and squash may be suggested as extra sports for the 2028 Summer Games, according to the media. Only one previous Olympic cricket match took place, between England and France in Paris in 1900, for the gold medal. We are thrilled that LA28 has suggested cricket be added to the Olympics.

Even if this isn’t the final decision, it’s a big step toward cricket’s return to the Olympics after more than a century. The IOC Session, which will be held in India during the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup next week, will make the ultimate decision. The ICC would like to thank LA28 for their cooperation during the new sport evaluation process over the past two years.

The 2028 edition will feature both men’s and women’s T20 competition, giving the IOC access to a rich market on the Asian subcontinent. The inclusion of cricket in the Olympics will significantly increase the sport’s appeal.

India is the game’s largest market, and the value of the IOC broadcast deal in that nation increased significantly once it was added to the 2028 edition. The broadcast contract in India might bring in up to 150 million pounds from the stated 15.6 million pounds for the 2024 Olympics, according to the article in the newspaper.

While both men’s and women’s tournaments were played at the recent Asian Games in China, where India won the championship, women’s cricket made its debut at the Commonwealth Games last year.

“We are thrilled that LA28 have recommended cricket for inclusion in the Olympics,” ICC Chairman Greg Barclay remarked. Even if this isn’t the final decision, it’s a big step toward cricket’s return to the Olympics after more than a century.

We look forward to the final decision being made at the IOC Session, in India, during the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup next week. I’d like to thank LA28 for their help during the new sport review process over the last two years.

The International Olympic Committee received the Los Angeles organizing committee’s plan on Monday, according to two people who are familiar with it, setting it up for a vote at the IOC’s meeting in Mumbai, India, later this month.
