New Delhi, India (CU)_ An MoU was signed between All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) and Delhi Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research University (DPSRU) to team up in the fields of Ayurvedic and medicinal plant-based drug research and academics. This partnership will largely concentrate on using modern science to test Ayurvedic and therapeutic plant-based medications in patients. As part of the MoU, faculty and students from both universities will collaborate in the fields of research, academics, and scientific activities.

The AIIA is a government-funded Ayurvedic Studies institute. According to research, the science of pharmacology and pharmacognosy is gaining traction in the study of Ayurvedic formulations and AYUSH medication discovery. This partnership will focus on both the universities’ students working together on research projects along with lectures from both institutes acting as co-supervisors, in addition to cooperative research between the institutes that would be supported by external entities.

Professor Ramesh K Goyal, DPSRU Vice Chancellor, Dr O P Shukla, DPSRU Registrar, and Professor Tanuja Nesari, AIIA Director, signed the MoU. In the academic year 2021-2022, DPSRU will begin a new B Pharm (Ayurveda) program. Dr. Mukesh Nandave, the senior coordinator of MoU and Associate Professor of Pharmacology at DPSRU, expressed optimism about the partnership. He said, “Both institutes will be benefited to a major extent in advancing the Ayurvedic therapies and practices to the next level.” Prof Ramesh K Goyal, Vice Chancellor of DPSRU, also joined the launch of the Integrated Clinical Unit at DPSRU during the event.

Being one of the oldest healthcare systems in the world, Ayurvedic medicine is still followed in India’s traditional healthcare system. Ayurvedic treatment mainly uses plant-based products, as well as rare use of animal, metal, and mineral goods, and also includes nutrition, exercise, and lifestyle. Despite the fact that many scholarly articles detailing the benefits of Ayurvedic medicine and its components, just a few clinical trials using these procedures have been published in Western medical journals.
