Mumbai, India (CU)_ Bollywood’s all-time favourite and blockbuster hit Devdas is celebrating its 19 years this year. The movie’s 19-year-long style journey is remembered even today. Aishwarya Rai’s sarees and Madhuri Dixit’s lehengas and the other amazing costumes are the most memorable part of the film. Devdas, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, represented everything that Bollywood has always been about. Devdas was and continues to be one of Bhansali’s most remarkable films till date with a visual treat full of rich sets and exclusive costumes. This film’s fashion and styling had set a model for future films.

The speciality of the movie Devdas is that every set was precisely constructed and every outfit was exquisitely embroidered and designed. This is the brilliance of Bhansali’s Devdas, which still remains a masterpiece in the industry and created a unique style for all of his films from then on, even after 19 years. The unique styles of Aishwarya Rai and Madhuri Dixit from the film exhibited the fashion at the time.

Madhuri Dixit’s vast list of costumes were all amazing, with each one costing around INR 15 lakhs and designed by top couturier Abu Jani-Sandeep Khosla. Madhuri Dixit made a great impression in the classic song Kahe Chhed Chhed Mohe with her 30 kg ghagra, which was a notable design and garnered huge attention. To allow for faster movement, it was subsequently replaced by one weighing approximately 16 kgs. She also wore a ghagra that designers handcrafted for nearly two months.

While Abu Jani-Sandeep Khosla solely took incharge of Madhuri Dixit’s ensembles, Aishwarya Rai’s notable large saree collection in the film was designed by Neeta Lulla. To add life to the movie with exclusive costumes, nearly 600 sarees were bought from various shops in Kolkata. Many sarees were mixed and matched to form colourful layers for a better elegant drape, which took up to three hours to dress. Aishwarya Rai wore an almost 9-metre saree instead of the typical 6-metre saree to create a more spectacular impression.
