Diabetes the silent killer

-

Diabetes is a chronic disease which occurs when the body cannot effectively use the insulin it produces or when the pancreas does not produce enough insulin. A hormone that regulates blood glucose is insulin. Hyperglycaemia also known as raised blood sugar or raised blood glucose.

Diabetes when uncontrolled would lead to serious damage to many parts of the body system specially the blood vessels and nerves. The symptoms for diabetes may suddenly occur which includes poor vision, feeling lethargic, feeling dehydrated, losing weight and need to urinate more often. Over a period of time, nerves, kidneys, heart and eyes can be affected due to diabetes. People with diabetes develop many problems with their feet from nerve damage and poor blood flow. There is a high risk of getting heart attack, kidney failure and stroke due to diabetes.

There are two types of diabetes, type 1 deficient insulin production and needs daily administration of insulin. Type two diabetes, which affects how your body users sugar for energy it stops the body from using insulin properly. This leads to high blood sugar.
