Texas, USA (CU)_ Purdue University’s Discovery Park District has established a cooperation in the field of Internet of Things technologies. In an attempt to promote IoT technology and analyze how it will be utilized, the district is collaborating with the university’s SMART Consortium.
The SMART Consortium is a multi-disciplinary research facility on the West Lafayette campus, housed in the Birck Nanotechnology Center. According to Ali Shakouri, director of the Birck Center, the collaboration is a foundry for IoT development.
Shakouri said, “A foundry is a shared developmental manufacturing facility, and they were vital to the rapid growth of Silicon Valley. At the district, we envision a foundry dedicated to supporting the fast development of low-cost, high-volume IoT devices and use cases – generating faster product development pilot runs and lower cost per unit – making innovation much more accessible and affordable.”
The Internet of Things (IoT) is a term that describes the technology that connects the internet to a wide range of gadgets, including video-enabled doorbells, internet-connected thermostats, and more. Machine learning and artificial intelligence are also used to process data. According to the university, the Discovery Park District’s collaboration with the SMART Consortium is a natural link that will stimulate IoT innovation and bridge research via applied application.
