Drop in tourist consumption in Australia

Brisbane, Australia (CWBN)_ The Tourism Research Australian reported in its Tourism Satellite Account that tourist consumption in Australia dropped by 19%, which is equivalent to AUD 29.5 billion (USD 22.2 billion) between 2019-20.

The overall direct contribution to the local economy by the sector was valued at AUD 50.4 billion, which is 18 percent less than in 2018-19, whereas the GDP share of the sector fell from 3.1 percent to 2.5 percent between 2019-20.

The percentage of the Australian workforce directly employed by the industry also fell by 6.6 percent.

Moreover, tourism exports, which comprises of local goods and services purchased by foreign visitors, also decreased by 21 percent to AUD 31.2 billion (USD 23.49 billion). Similarly, tourism imports, comprising of expenses made by Australians oversees, were recorded at AUD 42.1 billion (USD 31.69 billion), falling by 27.8 percent.
