Dubai (Commonwealth Union)_ This September, downtown Dubai will host a dining experience unlike any other. A new restaurant named WOOHOO is about to debut, and it’s already getting attention for one significant reason: yes, its head chef is not human. Meet Aiman, the world’s first artificial intelligence chef who oversees the creative direction of a whole restaurant. Aiman, which stands for “AI” and “man,” will not be slicing vegetables or stirring sauces in the kitchen. Instead, it has been designed to think like a chef, employing powerful data analysis to generate daring new recipes, exclusive plating designs, and culinary methods influenced by world cuisines and food science.

The AI system was developed by Gastronaut, a tech-driven food company based in Dubai. According to its creators, Aiman has been trained on thousands of recipes and food components, learning how to break down ingredients into flavor profiles, like sweetness, acidity, umami, and texture, and then reimagine them in creative ways. The goal is not to replace human chefs but to collaborate with them. Accordingly, human chefs will still handle the actual cooking, supervised by renowned Dubai-based chef Reif Othman. His group will study Aiman’s ideas, cook the dishes, and provide feedback that helps the system improve its culinary suggestions over time. This interactive loop lets the AI “learn” and adapt, improving both its creativity and practical understanding of food.

WOOHOO’s location is just a stone’s throw from the Burj Khalifa, and its design is expected to reflect its futuristic concept: think sleek interiors, cyberpunk influences, and smart dining technology. Even the drinks menu is getting the AI treatment, with algorithm-generated cocktail pairings based on the flavor notes of each dish. But Aiman is not just about novelty. The technology is also being used to tackle food sustainability. Additionally, Gastronaut says Aiman can help develop recipes that make use of typically wasted ingredients, such as vegetable peels, meat trimmings, and fats. The aim is to encourage zero-waste cooking and promote more mindful use of food resources, something many in the industry are beginning to prioritize.

Aiman already has a digital presence. Its Instagram page features human-style posts, videos, and even podcast clips, presenting the AI as both a chef and a food personality. Its tagline is “The world’s first and only AI chef.” According to Gastronaut CEO Oytun Cakir, this blend of human skill and artificial intelligence is the future of gastronomy. “We’re not trying to replace chefs,” he said in a recent statement. “We’re trying to amplify creativity and innovation in the kitchen.” Whether this new model will be embraced by diners remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: Dubai is once again at the forefront of reinventing the dining experience.
