Islamabad, Pakistan (CU)_ Pakistan’s textile industry has enormous opportunities to further increase its share in the European Union market. Zaheer A. Janjua, Pakistan’s Ambassador to Belgium, Luxembourg and the European Union, shared this information while addressing a virtual meet with Ms Saleha Asif, CEO of the Pakistan Textile Council, and other members of the board.

Recognizing the textile industry’s success during the COVID-19 pandemic period, Ambassador Janjua highlighted that Pakistan’s exports of textiles and clothing items to the EU market have improved to a greater extent in the past months.

He indicated that the government’s measures such as announcing energy package to support exporters recover from the pandemic effects and smart lockdown policies such as reopening of industry eventually led to the rise in textile exports.

He claimed that the GSP Plus facility was useful in significantly developing Pakistan’s exports to the EU, notably in the textile sector. While stressing the need to make the textile sector globally competitive, he also emphasized the need to make Pakistan’s goods more appealing through innovation, value addition, diversification and modernization.

Ms Saleha Asif, CEO of Pakistan Textile Council, informed the Ambassador about the plans to improve the textile exports in future through R&D and the attempts to acquire huge market access in the European Bloc.
