In the meantime, taking note of the increase in population, Dr. Heman Das Lohano stressed the importance of more effort towards addressing climate change. He indicated that, in addition to assisting Pakistan’s food security, biotechnology is the most effective approach to tackle climate change. The seminars unified the community leaders, including landowners and farmers, to emphasize the significance of agricultural biotechnology in improving crop productions and minimizing climate change consequences in Sindh.
All the participants are committed to personal action plans to assist sustainable agriculture in Sindh, realizing the agricultural sector’s critical role in addressing climate change issues. American academics, including Cornell University research scholar Dr. Sarah Evanega, joined the local participants electronically. She stated that biotechnology was used to enhance crops by introducing new characteristics that would make them capable of growing with less inputs. According to the professor, this would result in higher crop production.
Dr Nicholas Kalaitzandonakes, a professor at the University of Missouri, during a presentation on the significance of biotechnology for sustainable agriculture, said “We find that ,on average, yields increase more than 25 per cent with biotechnology”. According to him, companies must be aware that they are functioning in an environment that will safeguard people’s intellectual property and govern their technologies in an equitable and predictable manner.
