First female Indian American judge initiates her second mission!

“It is unusual that a judge that’s been serving in the system for 20 years would be running for judge. No one will have to guess at the kind of judge I’ll be because I’ve been serving and doing the job for 20 years. My life is an open book, the history of my decisions on the bench speaks for itself.” She further explained, “Even before becoming a judge, I had the perspective of a lawyer that was advocating for each side so I think that’s an important part of it as well”.

Van Tine has worked in private practice as well as government setting during her long career. According to Van Tine, she also worked as special counsel at the Illinois State Comptroller Daniel W. Haynes, following her 12-year-long career as an assistant state’s attorney of Cook County. She has dealt with hundreds of cases, and has argued many appeals. Additionally, she prosecuted dangerous criminals in the criminal division while defending Cook County Hospital in medical malpractice lawsuits.
