Africa (Commonwealth Union) _ The Federal Government has invested an impressive N89.2 billion in infrastructure and education within Bwari, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), over the past year, signaling a transformative era for the region.
FCT Minister Nyesom Wike highlighted key projects during the inauguration of the five-kilometer Gaba–Tokulo Road, constructed at a cost of N7 billion following the community’s requests. Additional projects include the N27 billion rehabilitation of the Dutse-to-Bwari Road and N28 billion for dualizing the Ushafa-to-War College Road. The Gaba–Tokulo Road will soon extend to Kawu, a border town with Kaduna State, complete with streetlights to enhance safety.
Minister Wike emphasized the administration’s commitment to touching every area council. “In 2024, President Tinubu directed that one major road be constructed in each council, showcasing our dedication to inclusive development,” he stated.
Education has also been a cornerstone of this investment strategy. With N27 billion allocated to renovate and construct schools, the region is experiencing a much-needed transformation. Among the beneficiaries are Government Girls Secondary Schools in Dutse, Ushafa, and Kubwa, along with several others. Investments in teacher retraining and upgrading school facilities across the six area councils underscore the administration’s commitment to quality education.
In December 2024, the FCT Administration announced a landmark $1.05 billion investment in education, including N3.5 billion in counterpart funding from the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC). The education budget exceeded UNESCO’s 26% benchmark, reflecting the administration’s prioritization of this sector. The administration has renovated 21 primary and junior secondary schools and established 30 new senior secondary schools so far.
Tertiary education is also advancing, with N14.53 billion allocated to complete the FCT University in Abaji. This marks a significant milestone in expanding higher education opportunities in the region.
In addition to infrastructure and education, the government has prioritized security. Two new police divisional offices are under construction and scheduled for completion by May 2025, enhancing safety for Bwari residents.
Bwari Area Council Chairman, Mr. John Gabaya, expressed gratitude for the remarkable progress, emphasizing its impact on rural communities. He urged further expansions to connect neighboring communities and improve access.
This ambitious transformation is a testament to the administration’s vision for development, laying the foundation for a brighter future in Bwari and beyond.
