NIGERIA (Commonwealth Union) – GAVI, also known as the Global Vaccine Alliance, has made it very clear that they have set aside 50 million USD to make sure that the health care sector in Zamfara, Jigawa, Kebbi, Katsina, Gomebe, Taraba, Niger and Bayelsa states are strengthened in every possible way.

Doctor Ibrahim Ali Mohammed was the one who stated that his amount of money had been set aside to help the above-mentioned states. They would start by implementing programmes in all eight states that would help improve the human capital, governance and supply chain.

The aforementioned states will take the most importance and priority. There are other areas also but those areas will be looked in to after these above areas have been prioritized.

Dr. Mohammed states that this initiative did not come about in week or months but it had been planned out from the year 2019. It took them 3 years to make this a fool proof plan and now they are ready to launch it.

UNICEF and WHO both agencies which have offices in Nigeria have also come forward to provide whatever man power that is needed to make this mission a success. The Nigerian Government has also made a pledge to help GAVI to bring back medical stability to the people of the needed areas.

Dr. Mohammed further noted that Nigeria is one of the countries in the work that has the highest number of unimmunized children. This could be the lack of education on the part of the parents or the lack of medication. Either way GAVI it ready to tackle both issues to make sure that all children in these areas a re fully vaccinated by the end of 2024.

It seems like a mammoth task but it also seems that everyone involved is prepared to work hard to make sure this goal is achieved.
