Gebrüder Weiss, the esteemed international transport and logistics company, has expanded its footprint in Australia by inaugurating a new Air & Sea office in Brisbane. This strategic move marks the company’s third operational location in the country, complementing its existing offices in Sydney and Melbourne.

Brisbane, a pivotal hub for international trade, hosts the container port—a linchpin in global commerce, boasting a remarkable throughput of 1.56 million TEU in 2022. Gebrüder Weiss aims to fortify its presence in Australia, with Brisbane emerging as a key locale for providing tailored services, particularly catering to clients in the engineering, agriculture, and medical equipment sectors.

Andrew Antonopoulos, Managing Director Australia and New Zealand at Gebrüder Weiss, emphasized the significance of the Brisbane expansion, stating, “Opening a location in Brisbane represents another key step in our efforts to increase our presence in Australia.” The suite of services offered encompasses air & sea transports, customs clearance, and a bespoke logistics mix designed for project orders.

Gebrüder Weiss recently demonstrated its prowess in handling specialized shipments by orchestrating the transport of an innovative solar car from Switzerland to Australia and back. This endeavor, conducted for ETH Zurich’s aCentauri Solar Racing Team, showcased the company’s proficiency in managing complex logistics projects.

Australia, with its import-oriented economy, maintains crucial trade ties with partners such as China, the US, and various Asian nations, including South Korea and Japan—where Gebrüder Weiss operates additional locations. Michael Zankel, Regional Manager East Asia/Oceania at Gebrüder Weiss, affirmed the company’s commitment to providing efficient end-to-end logistics solutions for the growing intra-Asian traffic.

Looking ahead, Gebrüder Weiss envisions further expansion with plans to establish additional stations in Australia’s north and west, ensuring comprehensive coverage across the entire continent. This move aligns with the company’s strategy to meet the evolving demands of the Australian market.

In a related development, the Port of Brisbane, Australia’s largest city port, secured a noteworthy $500 million sustainability-linked loan in June. This substantial financing, facilitated by a syndicate of 10 banks, underscores the port’s commitment to sustainable practices in its operations.
