New York, USA (CWBN)_ It has been confirmed that Google Search, Gmail, You Tube, and other Google services hit a critical, global breakdown late today, starting around 18:40 ET. At the time of writing Google has not responded to the issue.
Thus far about 40,000 cases have been reported by Downdetector, a website that tracks web outages, and has resulted in an uproar in social media with tags such #googleblackout, #googledown, and #YouTubeDOWN trending.
YouTube’s tech team has issued a statement via Twitter stating that “We are aware that many of you are having issues accessing YouTube right now – our team is aware and looking into it. We’ll update you here as soon as we have more news.”
While some of the services have resumed functioning to some extent, Gmail remains unavailable to many users. Moreover, companies using Google WorkSpace and smart-tech linked to Google Assistant are also facing the backlash.
