Government bans construction of high-rise buildings in Nuwara Eliya!

Sri Lanka (Commonwealth Union)_ The government is preparing a master plan for the development of Nuwara Eliya district in order to protect and enhance the city’s natural beauty and prohibit the construction of buildings taller than four stories in this major tourist destination. In accordance with the Government’s New Town Development Plan and Nuwara Eliya Tourism Plan, this initiative seeks to ban the unplanned expansion of buildings in Nuwara Eliya.

During his recent visit to Nuwara Eliya, President Wickremesinghe highlighted the significance of transforming the area into a striking metropolis that can attract tourists throughout the year. According to Minister Bandula Gunawardena, Cabinet Co-Spokesman, the president also insisted that plans prioritize the creation of a pleasant environment for tourists to relax in rather than concentrating on the construction of large and tall buildings.
