Hotels (Commonwealth Union) _ The management of Grand Serendib Hotel Kandy has announced plans to invest an additional Rs. 2 billion in the construction of their second hotel in Galle, marking a significant expansion of their hospitality portfolio. Dilip Herath, the Founder and Chairman of ABEC, revealed that the new hotel will feature 60 keys and is set to commence construction by the middle of the year.

Highlighting the success of their first property, Grand Serendib Hotel Kandy, which recently celebrated its first anniversary, Herath emphasized its impressive performance in online rankings and high occupancy rates, reaching up to 90%. Buoyed by this success and positive market outlook, the decision to invest in a second hotel in Galle was a natural progression for the company. Additionally, plans for a third hotel in Weligama are also on the horizon.

The investment in the leisure sector signifies a diversification strategy for ABEC, reflecting confidence in the potential of Sri Lanka’s hospitality industry. Despite challenges faced during the initial stages of the Grand Serendib Hotel Kandy project, including bureaucratic hurdles, the company remained steadfast in its commitment to the venture.

Grand Serendib Hotel Kandy has already gained a reputation for its exceptional amenities, including 24 well-appointed rooms, luxurious suites, and a family room. The hotel’s culinary offerings and stunning infinity swimming pool have been key attractions for guests. The presence of dignitaries such as Mayor of Kandy, Kesara Senanayake, at the anniversary celebration underscores the hotel’s significance in the local hospitality landscape.

The expansion into Galle and future plans for Weligama reflect ABEC’s long-term vision and commitment to providing world-class hospitality experiences in Sri Lanka. With strong leadership and a dedication to excellence, the company is poised to make a significant impact in the leisure and tourism sector, contributing to the country’s economic growth and development.
