Grundy’s season in doubt with major injury blow

AUSTRALIA – Collingwood ruckman Brodie Grundy faces up to three months on the sidelines after injuring his knee on Anzac Day. These injuries rarely happen when athletes keep to strict training regime and recovery but sometimes, they cannot be avoided.

He clashed knees with Essendon ruckman Sam Draper in a ruck contest, and all of social media as well as tv and news media confirmed on Tuesday morning that Grundy had injured the posterior cruciate ligament in his knee.

A PCL injury usually means a stint on the sidelines of 10-12 weeks.

Grundy spoke to a few media and press people after the match he was “pretty sore. He jumps in hard, Drapes, so he made me earn it. I should be fine, absolutely,” he said.

Grundy lifted in the last quarter to play a critical role in the Pies’ 11-point win over Essendon. He finished the match with 16 disposals, six marks, three clearances and 33 hit-outs, of which eight went to advantage.

If Grundy is ruled out additional responsibility will fall to Darcy Cameron, while Mason Cox is available for a recall.

During the same game Nathan Kreuger dislocated his shoulder for the second time this year, and will miss the rest of the season.

The 28-year-old Grundy is a dual All-Australian and Copeland Trophy winner.
