IHS Acquires Contract to run Nigerian Airtel Towers

-

Nigeria (Commonwealth) _ With the formal announcement of a strategic arrangement between IHS Nigeria and Airtel Nigeria, it has been revealed that Airtel Nigeria would purchase 3,950 tenancies in total over the course of the next five years.

Most of these purchases are anticipated to occur in 2024 or 2025, while the current tenancies, which include over 6,000 properties, are extended through December 2031. This all-inclusive agreement includes 2,500 colocations with build-to-suit locations and 5G enhancements, all managed and owned by IHS Nigeria.

IHS Nigeria, a division of IHS Holding Limited, and Airtel Nigeria, a division of Airtel Africa Plc, pledged their support for this collaboration in a joint statement.

Generally referred to as Airtel, Airtel Africa plc is an Indian multinational corporation that offers mobile money and telecommunications services in 14 African nations, mostly in East, Central, and West Africa. The Indian telecom giant Bharti Airtel owns the majority of Airtel Africa.

IHS Towers is the fourth-largest independent international tower firm in the world and one of the biggest suppliers of telecommunications infrastructure in Latin America, Africa, and the Middle East in terms of tower count.

The increased partnership’s importance was emphasized by IHS Towers CEO, who emphasized how it will help satisfy Africa’s connectivity needs and enable mobile access in Nigeria. Notably, the deal is in line with IHS Towers’ Carbon Reduction Roadmap and Airtel Africa’s sustainability policy.

Both corporations have committed to working together on future environmentally friendly projects across their joint properties, with a shared goal of reducing intensity measurements by 50% by 2030.

This powerful telecom partnership has the potential to improve cell coverage throughout Africa, including Nigeria. IHS Towers is the biggest provider of telecom infrastructure in Africa and the world, and it is essential to the advancement of connectivity on the continent.

Beyond Collaboration: Airtel Nigeria’s Dynamic Telecom Partnership with IHS Towers Will Drive Africa’s Digital Transformation. The impact on the larger digital infrastructure of both firms working together to handle the growing demand for connection cannot be overstated.

According to recent figures, mobile data usage across the continent has increased significantly, growing at a pace of 25% annually. This increase in demand highlights the need for reliable and expandable telecommunications infrastructure—exactly the type that IHS Towers specializes in offering.

Additionally, the expanded cooperation is indicative of a larger trend in the telecom industry, where partnerships are increasingly necessary to maintain competitiveness in the quickly evolving technological environment.

The partnership’s focus on build-to-suit locations and 5G adjustments puts both businesses at the forefront of the upcoming wave of connection as 5G technology prepares to roll out. In keeping with sustainability, the two businesses are utilizing renewable energy sources to power their combined locations in addition to lowering their carbon intensity.

Instead of just adjusting to change, IHS Towers and Airtel Nigeria are actively shaping a more environmentally responsible and sustainable future for the telecom sector in Africa. In addition to 5G modifications and build-to-suit locations that will be owned and managed by IHS Nigeria, the agreement includes 2,500 colocations.

According to IHS Towers’ plans to implement its Carbon Reduction Roadmap, which aims to cut IHS Towers’ intensity metric by 50% by 2030, and Airtel Africa’s sustainability strategy, which was introduced in October 2021, both companies have decided to work together on new green initiatives on the collective sites moving forward.

The extension and rekindling of our partnership with Airtel Nigeria, according to Sam Darwish, Chairman and CEO of IHS Towers, is evidence of our ongoing dedication to meeting the needs of Africans for connection. IHS has been working with Airtel Nigeria and Airtel Africa, which we support in other African markets, for a long time. It gives me great pleasure to say that we are still strengthening our partnership to support our customers’ rollout of new sites across Nigeria and to help promote mobile connectivity within our largest market.

In addition to mobile money services, Airtel Africa provides mobile voice and data services both domestically and abroad. Because of its affordable data rates in Nigeria, Airtel Nigeria is the most lucrative division of Airtel Africa. Airtel had more than 99 million users throughout the continent as of March 2019.It is a component of the FTSE 100 Index and is listed on the London Stock Exchange.

On June 4th, 2019, Bharti Airtel said that it would try to raise $750 million for Airtel Africa through an IPO, which would result in the firm listed on the London Stock Exchange.
