Mumbai (Commonwealth Union)_ In a remarkable achievement for Indian cinema, Stree 2, featuring Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor, has officially become the highest grossing Hindi film of all time at the domestic box office. This news was announced by production house Maddock Films, celebrating a significant milestone in Bollywood history. Directed by Amar Kaushik, Stree 2 surpassed the lifetime collections of several notable films, including the blockbuster hits like Animal, starring Ranbir Kapoor, and SRK’s Jawan.

According to industry data-tracking platform Sacnilk, by the end of its fifth Monday in theaters, Stree 2 amassed a staggering ₹583.35 crore net, crossing Animal’s total of ₹553.87 crore net. This success cements Stree 2’s status as a major contender in the Indian box office landscape. Accordingly, Maddock Films expressed their gratitude to fans via social media, stating, “Woh Stree hai aur usne aakhir kar dikhaya… Hindustan ki sab se sarvashresth No. 1 Hindi film of all time!!!” The production house encouraged fans to continue supporting the film in theaters, hoping to create even more records.

Stree 2 made an impressive debut on August 15, earning ₹64.8 crore collection on its opening day. It maintained strong performance throughout its first few weeks, raking in ₹307.8 crore nett in its first week alone. Subsequent weeks also saw collections of ₹145.8 crore nett, ₹72.83 crore nett, and ₹37.6 crore nett, respectively. Such numbers highlight the film’s widespread appeal and solidify its position as a box office juggernaut. While Stree 2 takes the crown, it is essential to note the formidable competition it faced. Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan, directed by Atlee, previously held the title of the highest grossing Hindi film, with a lifetime collection of ₹582.31 crores net in India. Jawan, which was released on September 7, 2023, became a global sensation, earning ₹1,160 crore net worldwide. The film features Khan in a dual role, alongside a talented cast including Nayanthara and Deepika Padukone, further enhancing its box office allure.
Stree 2 is a sequel to the 2018 horror comedy Stree, expanding the narrative universe created by director Amar Kaushik. The film also stars Aparshakti Khurrana, Abhishek Banerjee, and Pankaj Tripathi in pivotal roles, contributing to its rich storytelling and engaging performances.
