Punjab, India (CWBN)_ With the farmers’ protest going on around the country against the new farm laws, a Punjab family set an example to support the farmers in a unique way. The family announced that instead of offering them wedding presents, the Punjab family asked their relatives and friends to donate money to farmers protesting in and around Delhi for the abolition of the farm laws of the Centre. They also placed a special donation box inside the venue and asked for charitable contributions from the dance floor.
An announcer from the wedding event requested the audience to help the farmer. He said, “Instead of paying us ‘shagun’ money for the couple, please donate for the farmers protesting in Delhi. This money will be used to provide food, warm clothes and other essentials to the farmers”. This unique incident took place at Muktsar in Punjab, which is about 250 kilometers from Chandigarh.
Farmers were worried that the three farm laws would lead to a decline in their wages and make them vulnerable to corporate housing abuse. However, the central government believes that the legislation will remove intermediaries as farmers will be permitted to sell their products anywhere they wish.
So far, several rounds of talks between the protesting farmers and the central government have taken place. But the talks had not been able to end the deadlock. Farmer organizations say that they will not accept anything other than the scrapping of three new farm laws introduced in September.
This evening, Home Minister Amit Shah met with farmers, boosting expectations for a settlement a day before the sixth round of government talks to bring an end to the massive uproars against farm laws.
