India and Bangladesh to work together against global terrorism

-

Dhaka, Bangladesh (CU)_ The police chiefs from India and Bangladesh had a virtual meeting yesterday which discussed the measures to be taken by both the countries in strengthening counter-terrorism cooperation, especially against global terror groups. Designated ‘nodal points’ for timely and efficient handling and response to current as well as emerging security and counter-terrorism problems will be established as a step towards enhancing the battle against terrorism.

In the first delegation-level virtual Police Chiefs’ Dialogue, it was agreed by both the countries to strengthen cooperation against terrorist organizations, which include global terrorist groups as well as other fugitives, wherever they are present and involved in terror attacks. The need for sharing real-time intelligence and responses through the designated ‘nodal points’ was emphasized by both sides while also recognizing the current measures taken by each other against rebelling groups functioning in the area.

The Union Ministry of Home Affairs stated, “The scope of enhanced coordination to combat trans-border criminal activities, including smuggling of drugs, Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN), arms and ammunition and human trafficking was also discussed,” the statement from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs said.

Due to the restrictions enforced by the current Covid-19 pandemic, the Tuesday’s meeting took place virtually. However, both the countries highlighted the significance of this new high-level process, as the discussion came to an end with promises of greater support from both sides to resolve all potential security challenges in future.

The statement further said, “The institution of the Police Chiefs’ Dialogue, assisted by members of other security agencies on both sides, will further enhance the existing cooperation between the police forces of both countries, thereby further consolidating a relationship that transcends strategic partnership on this 50th anniversary of the Liberation of Bangladesh”.
