Recently Amit Shah, The Union Home Minister, mentioned that, he was not against English, but Indian children should learn their mother tongues as well as Hindi, and called for the need to preserve the country’s native languages.

Amith Shah was addressing the graduating students of the Indian Institute of Teacher Education (IITE) here during its convocation ceremony.

He also advised the graduating students to make use of the wealth of knowledge which is available in Vedas, Upanishads and Sanskrit language. Since India is a country which cannot oppose any form of knowledge, the Union Minister clearly mentioned that he was not against English language.

It is your responsibility to improve and preserve all Indian languages because they cover our culture, history, literature and grammar. We have to make our language strong. An important feature of the National Education Policy 2020 is to teach children in their mother tongue, he said.

He also said that it is important for children to learn other languages like German, French and English but a child from Gujarat should learn Gujarati and Hindi, Tamils should learn both Tamil and Hindi and an Assamese should learn both Assamese and Hindi. If this takes place, then anyone can’t stop are country progressing, said Shah.

The purpose of this institute (IITE), started by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his tenure as Gujarat chief minister, was to unify the Eastern and Western education philosophies, Shah also mentioned that, Sanskrit is one of the four papers which are taught to you.

I would appreciate if you could improve your basic knowledge of Sanskrit which you received from here. He further mentioned that, if there is one place in the whole world where a wealth of knowledge is collected, then it is our Sanskrit, Vadas and Upanishads.

The union minister said it is important to join our ancient Indian education philosophy with modern dimension. He said there have been a lot of changes in the fields of knowledge and science, and we should understand the changes and combine the two to create a complete education system.

A total of 2,927 students graduated from this institute, and Shah said that education is where it shows the correct path to a child and which becomes his or her guide.
