India (Commonwealth) _The Indian cricket team now has membership at a well-known gym in New York, according to reports from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The T20 World Cup 2024 players from Team India have voiced their displeasure with the hotel gym while they are in the United States.
Now that their Long Island team hotel is nearer, Rohit Sharma and company enjoy easier access to a top-notch gym. The “Men in Blue” have also been traveling to a public park for net training sessions in an effort to be ready for games.
The management of the Indian squad is not happy with the facilities at Cantiague Park in New York, as CricketNext revealed earlier this month. The Indian players have been using the location for their net training sessions; it is recognized by the ICC as an official net area with six drop-in pitches.
The location and practice conditions have also caused the BCCI to voice concerns, but they have not yet filed an official complaint. Additionally, the Indian athletes are dissatisfied with the gym amenities offered at their team accommodation. Recently, the BCCI was compelled to explore for alternatives and was able to get a membership in a well-known network of fitness centers for athletes.
Team India has made it two out of two in the Group A standings despite some training setbacks. In a low-scoring thriller, Rohit Sharma and company defeated Pakistan a few days after destroying Ireland. They are presently leading Group A standings and will take on co-hosts USA in T20 World Cup 2024 match number 25 on June 12.
Meanwhile, one of the co-hosts of the event, Sri Lanka, said on Friday that they had lodged a protest with the International Cricket Council (ICC) over the treatment and circumstances endured by their T20 World Cup squad in the United States. Other teams, according to Sports Minister Harin Fernando, were treated better, and Sri Lanka officially protested following a seven-hour travel delay at a Florida airport for their squad.
He said that the Indian squad was billeted significantly closer to the practice venue, whereas the Sri Lankan team was placed more than 90 minutes away from it upon arrival in New York. During their first game on Monday in New York, Sri Lanka was defeated by South Africa by a margin of six wickets. Fernando informed the assembly, “Sri Lanka Cricket has complained to the ICC.” “Different nations receive different treatment. We have demanded an answer from the tournament’s organizers.”
Fernando continued, “The sports ministry of Sri Lanka has dispatched an officer to the United States to inquire about the team’s well-being.” Sajith Premadasa, the opposition leader in Sri Lanka said that the parliament of Sri Lanka has unanimously voiced dismay at the purported conditions. He declared, “We should not allow this; we stand against this injustice. In an interview with local station Ada Derana TV, former captain and current member of Sri Lanka’s T20 team Angelo Mathews called the last few days “very difficult.
“”Practice spaces are inadequate. Wicket quality is poor. The past four to five days have been quite difficult for us,” he remarked. Practices had to be canceled due to a delayed flight. We are a squad that has triumphed throughout adversity, so we won’t use this as an excuse. We want to get beyond everything and perform well in the upcoming game. The International Cricket Council (ICC), according to Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa, has treated the Sri Lankan cricket team, which is now on a World Cup T20 series tour of the USA, like a stepmother. He informed the Parliament that the Sri Lankan team had encountered significant challenges with the logistics and timing of the games.
He added that the Sri Lankan squad was staying in a hotel 1.5 hours away from the stadium where the match would be played, in accordance with ICC regulations that state the team must be situated in a hotel no more than 45 minutes away from the venue.
The Opposition Leader said that only the Sri Lankan squad has experienced these problems, adding that the team had missed practice matches as a result.
“Why is our team the only one receiving this harsh treatment? Without the required resources, we are unable to anticipate success. This will influence how they turn out “he stated. Premadasa asked the Minister of Sports to investigate. The issue would be referred to the Ministry of Sports, according to House Leader Susil Premajayantha, who has promised a response by tomorrow.
