violinist Kanyakumari, who is an iconic master violinist, composer, and teacher in the Indian Carnatic musical tradition, the Indian-American congressman noted that the Indian government had honoured Kanyakumari with the highly prestigious Padma Shri Award in 2015 for her talent and services to the Indian music and culture. Tamil Nadu state government honoured Kanyakumari’s accomplishments with the Kalaimamani Award the following year. She also received the prestigious Sangita Kalanidhi Award from the Madras Music Academy.
Raja Krishnamoorthi appreciated Kanyakumari’s musical talent and said, “Madam Speaker, I want to recognise the contributions of maestro, guru, and composer Avasarala Kanyakumari to Indian music and culture, and the gift of her talent to the millions of devotees of the Carnatic musical tradition”. Kanyakumari was born in Guntur city in Andhra Pradesh and started her musical career as a violinist when she was only eight.
Raja Krishnamoorthi highlighted how Kanyakumari was brought into the musical industry. He said, “Blessed with an abundance of natural talent and nurtured by her family and dedicated teachers, including the eminent violinist Maestro Ivaturi Vijayeswara Rao, Kanyakumari was soon performing in small concerts and building a reputation as a musical prodigy”.
According to Raja Krishnamoorthi, Kanyakumari relocated to Chennai after completing her high school, where she pursued her studies as well as her musical career as a renowned accompanist and soloist, and was praised by reviewers, music lovers and experts alike for her technical prowess and excellent musicality.
