support family and friends in India. He said, “I also shared my hope that the US will continue to be an active global leader in helping stop the pandemic in India and across the world. American leadership will be critical to saving lives and ending this pandemic once and for all”.

Last week, Vice President Kamala Harris said that the US is determined to help India during this critical time due to the spike in COVID-19 infections and deaths. She also highlighted that India’s welfare is more important to the United States. During her speech at the State Department’s Diaspora outreach event on US COVID Relief for India, she said, “at the beginning of the pandemic, when our hospital beds were stretched, India sent assistance. And today, we are determined to help India in its hour of need”.

Earlier this month, the Commonwealth also announced its medical help to India. Thanking India’s role in the early pandemic war and its aid to small and vulnerable countries, the Commonwealth Secretary-General Patricia Scotland expressed concern for the current COVID crisis in India and promised for further support in the pandemic battle.
