Indian American NGO leaps to tenth place among philanthropic organizations

Non-profit organizations helping India’s COVID-19 battle gained a surge of support, especially Sewa International. Sandeep Khadkekar, the vice president for marketing and fund development of Sewa, expressed heartfelt appreciation to Benevity Inc. for tracking these trends and finding Sewa’s growing support from organizations and their employees. According to a media statement, in 2021, almost 1.6 million people from more than 700 enterprises gave USD2.3 billion to over 200,000 charitable organizations worldwide using the Benevity platform.

According to Benevity, nonprofits assisting India’s COVID-19 issue have had a wave of support, including Sewa International which ranked 10 in 2021 and 375 in 2020; Give2Asia which ranked 23 in 2021 and 63 in 2020; Pratham USA which ranked 26 in 2021 and 75 in 2020; and Goonj which ranked 30 in 2021 and 384 in 2020. The organization claimed that the situation in India also increased donating to UNICEF, which was the reason behind the organization’s support through Benevity nearly doubling every year, being USD13.5 million in 2021 and USD7.3 million in 2020.

According to Birger Stamperdahl, president and CEO of Give2Asia, when the Delta variation struck India in 2021, we noticed businesses and their workers came forward for assistance. He explained that their generosity enabled life-saving measures such as the distribution of oxygen concentrators, protective equipment for health professionals, and emergency food rations to individuals most struck by the pandemic.
