Ports Shipping and Logistics (Commonwealth Union) – India’s freight train operations have witnessed a remarkable event of freight trains operations increased by 60 percent in recent months, as the country’s railway system continues to expand and improve. This significant increase in freight train operations can be attributed to several key factors, including increased demand for goods transportation, infrastructure upgrades, and government initiatives to boost the sector.
The Dedicated Freight Corridors (DFC) have been designed to provide reliable, economical, and speedier delivery of goods. This 2,843-km long engineering marvel moves via 56 districts across 7 states and 96.4% completed right now. The Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor (EDFC), spanning 1,337 km from Ludhiana to Sonnagar, is fully complete and operational, with feeder routes to various coal mines and thermal power plants. The Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC), extending 1,506 km from Dadri to Mumbai, is 93.2% fulfilled, with feeder routes providing service to several cement plants and the large ports of Mundra, Kandla, Pipavav as well as Hazira that is located in the state of Gujarat.
The advantages of the two corridors will see benefits in spite any challenges in the completion of the project.

“For the entire northeastern region this year, an allocation of Rs 10,376 crore has been made. As you are aware, 60 stations are being redeveloped in the northeastern region with the aim to make them Amrit Stations,” said Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.
