IndiGo expands codeshare agreement

-

Australia (Commonwealth)_IndiGo, India’s leading low-cost carrier, has significantly expanded its codeshare agreement with Qantas Airways, Australia’s national airline. This collaboration provides Indian travelers with enhanced connectivity and a wider range of travel options within Australia.

Effective March 31, 2024, IndiGo customers will be able to seamlessly connect to eleven new destinations across Australia through codeshare flights. This expanded network encompasses major tourist hubs and economic centers, including Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Gold Coast, and Perth.

The codeshare agreement extends beyond initial flight connections. Passengers flying on IndiGo can continue their journeys within Australia on Qantas-operated domestic flights to Adelaide, Canberra, and the Gold Coast. This comprehensive network caters to the diverse needs of Indian tourists, business travelers, and leisure seekers, offering them the flexibility to explore a wider range of destinations throughout Australia, particularly during the upcoming summer season.

IndiGo already provides travel options to Singapore, ensuring a smooth connection to Qantas flights that bridge the gap between Singapore and Australia. This expanded partnership strengthens IndiGo’s international presence by leveraging Qantas’ extensive domestic network within Australia.

Commenting on the development, Vinay Malhotra, Head of Global Sales at IndiGo, expressed his enthusiasm. “We are delighted to introduce these new connections within Australia in collaboration with Qantas,” he stated. “This codeshare agreement empowers our passengers to not only travel to major cities like Melbourne, Sydney, Perth, and Brisbane via Singapore but also venture onwards to Adelaide, Canberra, and the Gold Coast.”

Malhotra further emphasized the significance of the partnership for the Indian aviation industry. “The Indian aviation sector is experiencing a period of transformative growth,” he said. “As India’s leading carrier, this partnership strengthens our international presence by capitalizing on Qantas’ unmatched reach. IndiGo remains steadfast in its commitment to delivering an unparalleled network that prioritizes affordability, punctuality, courteous service, and a hassle-free travel experience.”

The expanded codeshare agreement builds upon a foundation established in 2022. That year, Qantas and IndiGo initiated a collaboration enabling Qantas customers traveling on non-stop flights between Australia and India to connect to 21 destinations within India through IndiGo’s domestic network. In November 2023, IndiGo announced the initial leg of the expanded agreement, offering connections to Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, and Brisbane.

This progressive partnership between IndiGo and Qantas caters to the growing demand for seamless travel experiences between India and Australia. It empowers Indian travelers with greater flexibility and a wider range of options, fostering tourism, business opportunities, and cultural exchange between the two nations.
