Pakistan (Commonwealth) _ Inzamam-ul-Haq, Pakistan’s chief of selectors, resigned on Monday over claims of a conflict of interest related to the team’s dismal performance in the World Cup in India.

Inzamam is said to have worked for a business that hired various Pakistani athletes for marketing and commercial activities. Former player Inzamam stated that he is willing to face any investigation by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

I am grieved by these charges of a conflict of interest, and if the PCB conducts an investigation, I am prepared to face the consequences, Inzamam told the reporters. According to Pakistani media, the corporation engaged impacted the team’s selecting process.

Pakistan is on the verge of exiting the present World Cup in India after losing four of their six matches. They meet Bangladesh in Kolkata on Tuesday and must not only win their remaining three matches but also hope that other outcomes go their way in order to get to the semifinals.

The incident came only days after the PCB issued a statement in support of skipper Babar Azam in the face of “media scrutiny,” in which Inzamam was also mentioned. It has been a controversial as Inzamam-ul-Haq announced his retirement midway through the tournament. This happened only days after the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) issued a statement in support of skipper Babar Azam against the “media scrutiny” in which Inzamam was also mentioned.

Pakistan, a past champion and championship contender entering into the event in India, sunk to a World Cup low last Friday after losing for the fourth time in the competition. Pakistan fell to India, Australia, Afghanistan, and South Africa after starting their campaign on a high note with victories over the Netherlands and Sri Lanka.

This was the first time Pakistan has ever lost four consecutive World Cup matches. With the team hoping to end its losing streak and make a miraculous comeback in the World Cup tournament with a semifinal qualification against Bangladesh at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Tuesday, Inzamam resigned

I am resigning from my position to allow the PCB to undertake an open investigation into the conflict of interest claims reported in the media. If the committee deems me not guilty, I shall return to my post as chief selector, according to the PCB’s statement on the situation.

However, the news came amid concerns of a possible conflict of interest. It has been claimed that the former Pakistan captain is a stakeholder in “Yazo International Limited,” a firm run by Talha Rehmani, an agent for elite players like as Babar, Mohammad Rizwan, and Shaheen Afridi.

Later that evening, only minutes after Inzamam quit, the PCB turned to social media to announce the formation of a five-member committee to probe the media charges of conflict of interest. Inzamam, who confirmed his resignation to CricketPakistan, dismissed the allegations, claiming that he has no relation to the aforementioned organization.

People talk without doing their homework. If you’re going to point fingers and raise concerns about me, I’d rather quit. If PCB wishes to do an investigation, I am accessible. People are talking about me without any proof; if you have any, please bring it. I requested that the PCB do the same.  He stated that he has no affiliation with the player agency; these sorts of charges irritate me, he lamented.  Inzamam played 120 tests, 386 ODIs, and a solitary T20I for India between 1991 and 2007, and was a member of the team that won the 1992 World Cup. His career came to an end as Pakistan were eliminated in the first round of the 2007 World Cup in the Caribbean.
