Is the Iran War Really Over? Trump Says a Deal Is Already Signed

US President Donald Trump has revealed that he has already signed a preliminary agreement to end the conflict with Iran. He indicated that the public could soon learn the details of the deal.

Speaking during a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron at the G7 summit, Trump said the agreement was complete and ready to move forward. He described it as an important step toward ending the fighting and improving stability in the Middle East.

Senior US officials later shared some information about the agreement. They said the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important oil shipping routes, is expected to reopen on Friday when the agreement is formally signed in Geneva. Officials also said discussions about Iran’s nuclear programme will begin this week. However, any sanctions relief or release of frozen Iranian assets will depend on whether Iran follows the commitments outlined in the agreement.

US Vice President JD Vance explained that the memorandum of understanding (MOU) is only a short document that establishes a basic framework. He said many important details will still need to be negotiated during future technical talks.

Vance stated that Iran has committed to promoting regional peace and stability. The agreement also includes commitments to stop funding armed groups and to ensure that Iran does not develop a nuclear weapon. He said these promises would be subject to verification.

US officials confirmed that Trump, Vance, and Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf electronically signed the document. More information about the agreement may be released in the coming days. The deal also extends the current ceasefire for another 60 days. During that period, both sides are expected to negotiate a more detailed and permanent agreement.

Pakistan played a key role in mediating the talks. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said the agreement includes an immediate end to military operations across several areas, including Lebanon. However, US officials clarified that Israel is not required to withdraw its forces from Lebanese territory. They said Israel would continue to have the right to defend itself if necessary.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israeli troops would stay in security zones in Lebanon, Syria, and Gaza for as long as needed. He also said Iran should never be allowed to get nuclear weapons.

Iranian officials confirmed that military operations had ended but said they still do not fully trust the United States. Tehran described the agreement as an early step toward reducing tensions rather than a final solution.

Leaders from the United Kingdom, France, Germany, and Italy welcomed the breakthrough. They said Iran should never get nuclear weapons. They also stated that removing sanctions could be possible if Iran takes clear steps toward its nuclear program. Many world leaders called the deal an important step for peace and regional stability. They said it could help reopen key international trade routes.
