Following the release of heartwarming Christmas commercial, sales have soared by 2,000 per cent since John Lewis Christmas advert aired and Venus flytrap sales have skyrocketed by 2,000% because of the John Lewis Christmas advert.
The Perfect Tree, entitled The Snapper, features a young boy whose grow-your-own Christmas tree turns out to be an animated, mischievous flytrap.
The biggest supplier of flytraps to the British market – Netherlands firm Carni Flora, would usually ship around 2,000 in the run-up to Christmas.
The nursery now expects to export at least 40,000 in December with owner Justin van Kessel declaring himself ‘flabbergasted’ by the volume of orders , as sales for Venus flytraps skyrocket.
He said that the level of demand was quite insane, and that Christmas has come early for them.
John Lewis ordered several thousand flytraps from the Netherlands before its advert aired. It swiftly sold out of the £10 plants in ceramic pots and has ordered more.
Business is also booming for British nurseries. South West Carnivorous Plants in Sidmouth, Devon, have sold 2,500 flytraps in one day alone. ‘We’re very pleased with John Lewis,’ said owner Simon Hamming.
Ironically, flytraps go dormant in winter when their insect prey are in short supply.

John Lewis shoppers have been raving over the “so comfy” loungewear set which has been slashed by 15 per cent in the retailer’s Black Friday sale.
Like many other major retailers, the popular department store has excited customers by launching its Black Friday sale just ahead of the mammoth shopping event due to take place this Friday, and included in the sale is the bestselling Zara Jersey Lounge Set. Already included in the retailer’s budget Anyday range, this loungewear set has been reduced even further to just £18.70 until Monday, 27th November.
