The UK’s most beautiful Christmas lights are over four hours away from London

-

Christmas (Commonwealth Union)_ People even tried to break the world record for elves at the park.

The UK’s most beautiful Christmas lights have been revealed.   The best Christmas lights, according to TimeOut, are a four-hour drive away from London in Stockeld Park, Yorkshire.

This will come as a shock to many Londoners who think the capital’s festive lights are sublime. What will be even more shocking is that not a single London landmark made it into the list of the top eight.

Anyhow, Harrogate is a lovely place to visit so it will be well worth the trip. Here are a few things you can do while there.

Check out the Christmas lights in Stockeld Park first thing. With the woodland morphing into an enchanted forest, the grand grounds come to life in winter.

With twinkly trees and a generally beautiful landscape, it’s a must-see. The installation lasts from November 18 until January 8. Prices start at £15 and you can book your tickets here.

The next place to visit is the hugely famous Grade II listed Valley Gardens. The 17-acre park which is open 24 hours a day is ideal for a peaceful stroll. You can also stop off at the Magnesia Well Café.

You can catch a glimpse of beautiful flowers and let off as much steam as you like.   chances are that while you’re there, you’ll work up an appetite, and if so the highly acclaimed Tilly Peppers with a full five stars on Tripadvisor is for you.

It serves everything you would ever want, such as Eggs Florentine, or a lovely pancake stack.

The city that comes alive during the festive period, has something for someone everywhere.

The UK’s best place to visit during Christmas has been revealed and unfortunately, it’s not London. Edinburgh instead has snatched the crown. Timeout Travel website has ranked the top 10 spots to hit up during the festive season, with London coming fourth. It measures each place based on things such as markets, light shows, and rides.

The city is full of culture and history, with everything from beautiful nature, exciting museums and cosy pubs to visit.  Although Edinburgh Castle is of course the first thing many tourists think of, there is much more to see and do.

Things to do in Edinburgh for Christmas

The Christmas market which runs from 17th December until 6th January next year is the first thing to visit. It’s not contained into one place either. It sees the city centre explode into a sphere of festivities which includes rides, outdoor events, food and drink.

Most of the activities are free, although some, such as ice skating, cost money. With tickets starting at £5, kids under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

The minimum skate size boot on the rink is a children’s size 8, and the maximum is adult size 15. You may also not take photos on the ice for safety reasons.

Elsewhere in the city, Arthur’s Seat is another must-see spot.   It is an ancient volcano sitting 251 metres above sea level, which offers spectacular 360-degree views of the surrounding area.

You could see the mediaeval remains of St Anthony’s Chapel and walk around the numerous paths, and of course, should you work up an appetite while there, such as the hugely popular Quinn’s Café, found on 62 West Port.

The café with five stars on TripAdvisor serves traditional delights such as bacon, eggs, and all the rest. It’s in fact so terrific that one diner said: “Quinn’s was fabulous! Though the cafe is small, we found breakfast there fantastic.  The owner offered recommendations and directions, and the service was quick and the food was wonderful. Their hours though early by Edinburgh standards, were wonderful as well. Stop in if you are looking for a nice Scottish breakfast.
