Hyderabad, India (CWBN)_ Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao’s daughter Ms Kavitha shared her views on the results of the Hyderabad municipal election on Tuesday. The Telangana Rashtra Samiti, the ruling party of Telangana, may have emerged as a largest party in the recent municipal election in Hyderabad, but the BJP’s win in the election means that during the time of electing a new mayor, it would possibly need support from Asaduddin Owaisi’s AIMIM party.

When the outcome of Tuesday’s election called for “some introspection” and was lower than predicted by the party, she pointed out that at least a dozen wards had been lost by very low margins to the TRS. It was during this time, the senior TRS leader Ms Kavitha said, “There is still some time for that. We will discuss and then come to a decision”.

Ms Kavitha said that BJP had confused the voters in the last minutes. She said, “The BJP paraded leaders and confused voters. It is the BJP tactic to go aggressive everywhere. We now understand BJP tactics. We will make sure we are one step ahead in 2023”. She expressed confidence in her party and added, “We are not a weak party. We are a well-organized party with 60 lakh members and will fight back to make sure we are one step ahead in 2023 (assembly elections)”.

In the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) election, the TRS won 55 of the 150 wards. The BJP won 48 seats and the AIMIM kept its 44 seats. Pointing to the result, Ms Kavitha said, “We have managed to put a stop to the BJP emerging as the largest party. The rest of the country can learn from the TRS. Hyderabad has shown the way to stop the BJP”.

K Kavitha confessed that the TRS had fallen short of its goals. However, she pointed out that the party had effectively fought anti-incumbency to remain the biggest party amid the BJP’s drive. She expressed hopes saying, “The TRS stood its ground and is still the largest party. Some introspection is needed… we lost closely in a dozen seats, but we have no hurry to elect a mayor. We have one month still”.

At the suggestion that the TRS could have done more to assist voters there, K Kavitha hit back saying that “the state received no help from the BJP government (at the center) during floods”. She questioned the BJP, “TRS managed to give relief even during the coronavirus pandemic. (But) the BJP stopped our relief… promised ₹ 25,000 (compensation). Will central leaders now help Hyderabad?”
