Kenyan paint industry progresses towards sustainability

Nairobi, Kenya (CU)_ One of the most leading industries in East Africa is the paints and coatings industry. Numerous enterprises are attempting to customize their products and services in order to meet the varying customer demands and to maintain their status in the competitive market. A study conducted by Frost & Sullivan’s Decorative Paints and Coatings Market for Kenya and Tanzania Forecast to 2020 found that the entire market size in 2015 was 66.2 million litres. It was predicted that the amount will rise to 91.5 million liters by 2020 and by an additional 20 million liters by 2021.

In 2018, the total market value for the two nations was predicted to be $188 million, with Kenya accounting for a greater proportion because of the development of the construction industry in Nairobi and other major cities. This rise has been fueled in part by breakthrough technologies that have enabled the manufacturers and suppliers to fulfill rising customer demand.

These technologies have resulted in the development of new products such as waterborne Epoxy (Floor) coatings, waterborne metal primers, and high-solids topcoats. Current advancements in nanotechnology have paved the way for paint makers to develop coatings with UV resistance, antimicrobial qualities, and self-cleaning features.

Environmental laws, such as rules aimed at reducing air pollution, will act as driving factors behind the development of innovative coating technologies in the future years. Fortunately for the more intelligent architectural coatings business, waterborne paintings will almost certainly continue to rise in popularity as customers desire coatings devoid of noxious odors and possibly dangerous raw materials.

It is obvious from these advances that the painting business is unavoidably moving away from a strategy focused entirely on mass-producing tonnes of standard liters of paint to one that is more innovative. Leading businesses not only provide paints and coatings, but also their important qualities like durability, protection, color, vibrancy, environmental friendliness, and antimicrobial and antifungal properties.
