Measuring pandemic losses, due to sharp decline in student academic test scores, although concerning but is just the tip of the Iceberg. According to research, estimated loss of earning for students in Massachusetts alone would be $21 billion. Difficult to measure yet has profound consequences, is the adverse result of Alienating from peers, learning process and teachers together with diminished motivation and inspiration.

It is difficult to see a generation of students falling behind. It is disheartening to witness the psychological and mental health setbacks they have endured. These consequences must be resolved immediately.

Solving the problem with a direct approach using technical solutions, like more time in school, tutoring and more focus on test subjects, may help for those who choose to participate. For those who opt out psychologically or physically, what is the solution?  Many students won’t feel encouraged to take advantage of tutoring, other strayed from school altogether. Many are struggling to reach normalcy in their young lives.

Tapping into their interest by activity, connecting students to the excitement of learning. Summer programs encourage students based on what they like to do while addressing academics, mental health and relationship. Motivation, Confidence and curious are rebound by academic and skill building in activities that children are interested in.

Closing gaps in achievements and enrichment between low-income youth and their wealthier pears, summer learning is a proven strategy for this achievement.

It is well documented unequal summer may produce a variant in opportunity and outcomes, which are considered as negative consequences. The gap has nearly doubled over 3 decades in family spending on enrichment, putting low-income children at severe disadvantage through no fault of their own. when compounded with the pandemic, it is essential, not optional, the summer learning should restore social mobility, increase equity and level the playing field for success.
