KFC Mini-Cricket returns, with more than 800 children in action

-

South Africa (Commonwealth) _More than 800 KFC Mini-Cricket children participated in the Cricket South Africa (CSA) KFC Mini-Cricket program this past weekend. As a part of the KwaZulu-Natal Inland regional events, the ninth KFC Mini-Cricket Provincial festival for 2023–2024 was held at the Oval Cricket Ground in Pietermaritzburg.

Many players have graduated from the KFC Mini-Cricket program over the years, including top Proteas captain Laura Wolvaardt and U19 women’s wicket keeper Karabo Meso, to name a couple. The KFC Mini-Cricket Provincial festivals should continue, according to Andra Nel, Marketing Manager for Brand and Purpose at KFC. As we begin the second half of the KFC-Mini-Cricket period, we are steadfast in our commitment to our primary goal of providing equal opportunities for every child. For our children and their families, KFC Mini-Cricket is a chance to help them become the best versions of themselves and realize their greatest aspirations rather than just a game. We want to see even more KFC Mini-Cricket children taking part in and prospering from the remaining events throughout the nation.

The recently appointed KFC Mini-Cricket Coordinator, Bongani Gwamanda, declared the well-attended regional event to be a big success.”We appreciate the help that KFC, Cricket South Africa, and our KFC Mini-Cricket instructors have given us. It is heartwarming to witness more than eight hundred children engaged in a game of miniature cricket, demonstrating the powerful unifying power of sport in our communities. KFC Mini-Cricket players like Ntandoyenkosi Zuma, who represents the Tuskers, are instances of the program’s effectiveness. Zuma was also picked in South Africa’s U19 team.

Graduate of the KFC Mini-Cricket program Ntandoyenkosi Zuma talked about his involvement in the program; when I was a student at Sweetwaters’ Bhekizizwe Primary School, a friend of mine introduced me to the KFC Mini-Cricket program, Zuma recalled. From then on, my love for the sport developed, and I haven’t looked back. One of the most important experiences of my career has been being chosen for the u19 squad, and and I’m hoping that by sharing my experience, the children will be motivated to take advantage of all the chances the program offers. The variety of this program guarantees that every little boy and girl has an equal chance.

One of the biggest sports programs for grassroots development in South Africa is KFC Mini-Cricket, which serves as a foundational element for acquiring the fundamentals of cricket and fostering a passion for the game. More than 120 000 kids participate in the nation’s largest grassroots sports program, which encourages them to get active and make new friends. And our young champions grow into more than just fans of the game. They have a passion for leading a healthy lifestyle that keeps them away from drugs, gangsterism, adolescent pregnancies, and other negative things.

A remarkable proportion of the youngsters go on to play cricket at the same national level after KFC sent them on trips with the Proteas, our national cricket side, so they could learn from the best. Sixteen different South African cricket unions sponsor our initiative. Furthermore, it draws in more than 13,000 selfless instructors who assist our young players in developing a passion for the game of cricket. We think KFC Mini-Cricket is more than simply a game; it’s a chance to teach our kids important social and life lessons like discipline and collaboration while encouraging an active and well-rounded lifestyle.
