Kuwait’s New Tourism Bet: Can Heritage, Food, and the Sea Outshine Oil?

KUWAIT CITY, August 18, 2026 — Kuwait has been known in the region for being one of the smallest countries in the Gulf region, but tourism efforts of the nation are beginning to expand well ahead of the normal view of being an oil-rich country with lots of business travel. Something is taking place in Kuwait that is less publicized, promoting heritage tourism, cuisine, and art on the waterfront, rather than just copying mainstream sites of the regional tourism system.

Kuwait uses its strategic location on the Arabian Gulf. The nation’s 499-kilometer coastline supports tourism, dining, and marine recreation. Major coastal initiatives, such as Phase 2 of the Kuwait Waterfront Development, were completed in early 2025, while additional phases continue to be advanced.

The year 2026 kicked off for the tourism and environmental sectors of Kuwait with outstanding achievements as intended. The most significant achievement was the opening of the first geologically secured park in the country, designed to serve as a large landscape park showcasing Kuwait’s natural environment and geology, which occurred on January 7, 2026. This opening is regarded as an important step in promoting education and ecotourism in the country. Following the 14th edition of the hospitality trade exhibition of HORECA Kuwait, a significant gathering of representatives of the hospitality industry started to work on January 19, 2026.

The event was conducted successfully with 100 companies taking part in the exhibition of 500 brands. Additionally, Kuwait concluded its diplomatic and technological activities by wrapping up the events organized with the 52nd Session of the UN Commission on Tourism and a special conference related to AI in tourism on February 10 and 11 of the same year.

The distinctive aspect of this technique is that it does not concern Kuwait’s effort to take on Dubai but instead provides a new idea: perhaps this isn’t a matter of architecture only, but it includes wonderful cuisine, rich culture, breathtaking coastline, and daily life as well.
