Pakistan (Commonwealth Union)_ According to reports, Lahore, the provincial capital of Punjab, will introduce the first “Blue Road” concept in the country, making it the first city in Pakistan and Asia to implement environmentally favorable roads. The proposal is being developed by the Punjab Central Business District Development Authority (PCBDDA), also known as Central Business District Punjab (CBD Punjab).
According to officials, the idea was intended to modernize the city’s infrastructure and enhance the quality of life for its citizens. Blue roadways are intended to provide a sustainable alternative to conventional asphalt roadways, integrating heat observation and energy-saving features in order to mitigate pollution and promote a healthier environment. The innovative roads are designed in such a way that the special coating reflects sunlight and reduces the amount of heat absorbed by the roadway surface. Additionally, the reflective coating enhances nighttime visibility for drivers, thereby enhancing road safety.

According to the officials, Imran Amin, CEO of the CBD Punjab, has been instructed by caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi to ensure the expeditious completion of the project. Imran Amin expressed delight over the introduction of the blue roads. He said, “We are excited to introduce the Blue Road concept in Pakistan, which has already been implemented successfully in several European and Middle Eastern countries like the Netherlands, France, and Qatar”.
According to Amin, this initiative will offer environmental benefits such as heat monitoring, energy conservation, and pollution reduction, as well as contribute to the goal of establishing a modern, sustainable, and inclusive society in Punjab. Amin also stated that his organization is dedicated to implementing initiatives that improve the residents’ standard of living. According to him, the launch of the Blue Road concept was one of many projects the authority was implementing to modernize the city’s infrastructure and enhance the quality of life for its residents.
