Hotels (Commonwealth Union) _ The iconic Cathedral Quarter Hotel in Derby, a Grade-II listed Victorian property, has changed hands as Lavendish Leisure, a subsidiary of Sri Lanka’s Dedigama Group, completes its acquisition from The Finesse Collection. Originally constructed in the 19th century, the hotel boasts 38 bedrooms and is nestled in Derby’s bustling commercial district on St Mary’s Gate.

Formerly a police station and council headquarters, the building underwent a stunning transformation in 2008 when The Finesse Collection converted it into a boutique hotel, meticulously preserving its historic charm. Victorian mosaic floors, stained glass windows, and a majestic central staircase contribute to the hotel’s unique ambiance.

This marks Lavendish Leisure’s second venture into the UK hotel market, complementing its portfolio of six hotels in Sri Lanka. Rashmi Dedigama, representing Lavendish Leisure, expresses excitement about the acquisition, emphasizing plans to uphold the hotel’s esteemed reputation while infusing it with fresh perspectives.

The Cathedral Quarter Hotel boasts not only its gracefully appointed bedrooms but also Bogart’s, a refined cocktail bar, and Opulence, a distinguished British restaurant providing unparalleled dining experiences. The sale of this property was facilitated by Josh Sullivan, an associate director at Colliers’ Hotels Agency team. Sullivan highlighted the property’s remarkable value and potential within the market. This transaction serves as a testament to the robust demand for strategically located regional hotels that have the capacity to elevate their amenities and competitive advantages. It underscores the significance of properties that can offer guests both luxury accommodations and exceptional dining options, aligning with evolving consumer preferences and market trends.

With Lavendish Leisure’s ambitious vision and dedication to preserving the hotel’s heritage, the Cathedral Quarter Hotel is poised for a new chapter of success, promising unparalleled hospitality experiences for its guests.Top of Form
