Ballroom dancing is known for being a fun-filled physical activity.  It is a great way to tone your muscles and enjoy the social aspect of having a great time and getting in shape. There are, however. much greater benefits in learning the beautiful art of ballroom dance.

Do you typically follow the crowd or do you like to take charge of different situations?  Learning the art of leading and following between dance partners is an important lesson in ballroom dancing.  Unlike other types of physical activity or dancing performed by a single person, it is strongly based on developing a solid partnership. So dancing can teach you to become a great team player if you are used to taking charge or even only following. Some of the most valuable life skills that one could learn from ballroom dancing are developing patience and learning how to lead and follow properly.

Some of us may need a lot of courage to get on the dance floor, especially in front of an audience.   Ballroom dancing is a slow and steady process of developing the required skills to perfect your ability to perform and it is your best friend when it comes to developing the confidence to express yourself freely in front of others.

Ballroom dancing is a form of art that has an affinity with acting.  The beauty of ballroom dancing is that while taking lessons you may get in touch with your inner world of emotions, feelings and thoughts, and discover many things about yourself.  Sometimes a particular song may trigger certain emotions that could lead to greater self-knowledge and self-discovery.  This is often seen on the popular show ‘Dancing with the Stars‘ where many celebrities look at dance as a way to strengthen or heal their emotional well-being, often coming to the show following a traumatic event or experience in their lives.  Ballroom dance offers us room to learn and experience more about our emotions, and letting them flow and pass freely by expressing them through dancing.

One of the greatest powers possessed by ballroom dance is helping people to become more authentic and get in touch with their true nature.  While we are often not able to express ourselves fully in the real world, once you are on the dance floor your inner being has no choice but to reveal the real you!   The interesting part about dancing is that the more you are able to do it from your heart, expressing yourself in an honest and childlike way, the more your dancing will improve and be a pure joy to behold for those who are watching.  This will consequently help you to get in touch with the person you are meant to be, or the real you.
