L&T Hydrocarbon Engineering bags INR 7,000 crore contract from HPCL Rajasthan Refinery

Mumbai, India (CU)_ L&T Hydrocarbon Engineering (LTHE), a subsidiary of Larsen and Toubro, announced on Monday that it has taken over INR 7,000 crore contract from HPCL Rajasthan Refinery Ltd (HRRL), which is a collaboration between Hindustan Petroleum Corporation (HPCL) and the Government of Rajasthan, to establish a dual feed cracker unit.

However, the Mumbai-based engineering and construction major did not mention the definite value of the contract, but stated that, according to its classification, the mega project is worth more than INR 7,000 crore. In a regulatory submission to the stock exchanges, L&T said, “L&T Hydrocarbon Engineering Limited (LTHE), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Larsen and Toubro, has won an order from HPCL Rajasthan Refinery Limited (HRRL), a joint venture between Hindustan Petroleum Corporation (HPCL) and Government of Rajasthan”.

L&T announced that the engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning (EPCC) contract is to establish a dual feed cracker unit (DFCU) for the Rajasthan Refinery Project in Barmer, Rajasthan. The company reported that this is the biggest EPCC contract in the petrochemical sector. It said, “The DFCU is the biggest EPCC contract awarded in the country to date in the refinery and petrochemical sector”. DFCU is used to transform Refinery Naphtha and Offgase into polymer grade Ethylene and Propylene by thermal cracking process.
