Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital gets its first oxygen plant

Chennai, India (CU)_ With the launch of a new medical oxygen plant in the hospital site, Trichy’s Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital (MGMGH) will now be able to manage its oxygen requirements without any hindrance. The hospital handled hundreds of Covid-19 patients during the fatal second wave which eventually culminated in an oxygen crisis. When the hospital was treating over 1,000 patients a few months ago, oxygen was provided by a private company.

Trichy collector S Sivarasu, Minister for Municipal Administration K N Nehru and Minister for School Education Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi launched the plant in Trichy. Nehru addressed the reporters following the inauguration and said that the oxygen plant, which was the first to be built at this tertiary care hospital, has the potential to produce 350 litres of oxygen per minute. The plant was built with INR 53 lakh fund support from municipal administration.
