Since then, Chmba’s career has soared to new heights. She had the opportunity to DJ for the iconic pop queen Madonna during one of her visits to Malawi. Initially nervous about Madonna’s reaction, Chmba soon realized that the superstar simply wanted her to disregard the party organizer’s instructions to play only cool jazz. Madonna encouraged her to pump up the energy with Afrobeats, leading the party to continue until the early hours of the morning.
Chmba left a lasting impression on Madonna, which led to an invitation to DJ at an Oscars afterparty in Los Angeles, attended by A-list celebrities. She has also had the privilege of opening for renowned Grammy Award winners such as Angélique Kidjo and Nile Rogers.
Recognitions and accolades have followed Chmba’s success. She was named Glamour Magazine’s Woman of the Year, and her philanthropic endeavors have earned recognition from esteemed institutions like Forbes and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
Chmba is now set to release her latest EP, titled “Okongola Caucus,” which blends Afrofuture sounds with influences ranging from bass house to Afrobeats. The songs incorporate samples of traditional Malawian drums alongside electronic synths, creating a unique fusion of sounds. The EP is scheduled to drop on June 16th, showcasing Chmba’s diverse musical talents.
