Singapore (CU)_ The Singapore Traffic Police has launched a pilot program through which Malaysian driving license holders will be able to change to a Singapore driving license by submitting an online application in their portal. According to a news statement from the Singapore Police Force (SPF), the objective of the pilot program is to cut waiting and transaction times at the Traffic Police headquarters.
The entire procedure operates in an easy user-friendly manner. According to the SPF, under the new procedure, the eligibility of foreign drivers will be evaluated prior to their arrival to the headquarters. Candidates must submit their applications using the URL provided. They will then get an official email requesting their supporting materials. Finally, after submitting the required materials, applicants will get a response about the status of their applications within ten working days.
Once all paperwork has been completed and conversion eligibility conditions are satisfied, then applicants will be assigned a day and time to bring their documents for verification and final conversion to the Traffic Police headquarters. In addition to the above procedure, applicants must also pass the BTT. The SPF noted that in order to fulfill the qualifying requirements, candidates must pass the following criteria.
They should pass the Basic Theory Test (BTT) at any of Singapore’s driving centers. They must possess a valid qualifying foreign driver’s license, accompanied by an official translation of the license by a Singapore-registered translation firm if the license is not in English. They should also have an extract of the driving license record from the Licensing Authority specifying the date of initial issue and the date of expiration of the driving license, and also possess an International Driving Permit that is valid (IDP).
According to the SPF, “The Traffic Police would like to seek the public’s understanding as it processes a higher than usual volume of applications, and that during the processing, time is required to authenticate the documents and ensure that the conversion eligibility criteria are met.”
