Malaysia (Commonwealth Union)_ Etiqa has announced that its product line now includes insurance and takaful coverage for electric vehicle (EV) home chargers. The policy is offered as a free add-on to an Etiqa private auto insurance or certificate for newly-registered battery-powered EVs and plug-in hybrids (PHEV). To promote its launch, the business is providing the home wall charger coverage as a limited-time complimentary add-on for newly-registered EV car insurance and takaful plans until 31st March 2023.

Apart from this, solo coverage for EV home chargers under the All-Risks insurance and takaful plan for EV owners who acquired an EV home wall charger separately from their new motor insurance/takaful is also available. The EV home charger insurance add-on reimburses up to RM12,000 to displace or repair the EV home charger in case of loss or damage because of fire, theft (forcible & violent entry), lightning, blast, bursting or overflowing of water tanks or pipelines, typhoon, windstorm, earthquake or flood.

“As a top insurance and takaful operator that champions sustainability, Etiqa is delighted to offer the first-in-Malaysia insurance and takaful coverage for EV home chargers. We believe that this will ease the concerns of car owners in considering EVs as an attractive option when purchasing new vehicles and spark further conversation in the personal choices we can all make to tackle climate change,” Chris Eng, chief strategy officer at Etiqa, said.

Etiqa General Insurance and Etiqa General Takaful underwrite the auto insurance and takaful policies. According to the insurer, EV owners who acquired the EV home wall charger independently from their new motor insurance/takaful are also eligible for the solo coverage for EV home chargers under the All-Risk Insurance and Takaful plan.
