Maldives and Rwanda sign major agreements to enhance bilateral cooperation

 Male, Maldives (CU)_ The Governments of the Maldives and Rwanda have signed a series of major agreements between the two nations to further strengthen and expand the bilateral relations. The signing ceremony was held at the Rwandan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

         Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, His Excellency Ahmed Khaleel, signed the agreements as an honorable representative of the Government of Maldives, and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Rwanda, His Excellency Vincent Biruta, signed the agreements as an honorable representative of the Government of Rwanda. The following are the five major agreements signed between the governments of the Maldives and Rwanda.

  • A General Cooperation Agreement was signed between the Governments of the Republic of Maldives and the Republic of Rwanda.
  • An Air Services Agreement was inked between Governments of the Republic of Maldives and the Republic of Rwanda.
  • A Memorandum of Understanding was signed on Tourism Development & Promotion and Business Events between the Governments of the Republic of Maldives and the Republic of Rwanda.
  • An MoU was signed on Maritime Transport Cooperation between the Republic of Maldives and the Republic of Rwanda.
  • A Memorandum of Understanding was inked between the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Resources of the Republic of Rwanda and the Ministry of Fisheries, Marine Resources, and Agriculture of the Government of the Republic of Maldives.

         The signing of the agreements marks a turning point in the bilateral relationship between the two nations which will further strengthen their collaboration and coordination on bilateral and international matters. On September 6, 2019, the Maldives formed diplomatic ties with Rwanda.
